Saturday - September 2

A beautiful day for driving thru more scenic upstate New York.    We left at 8:45 for the Finger Lakes Region, about 30 miles west of here.     We stopped at the Visitor's Center in Ithaca and had the nicest young man tell us about this region (there are 11 finger lakes), best routes to take, quaint little towns, etc., etc.

We drove to Watkins Glen at the bottom of Seneca Lake - nice little town and after having a coffee/tea fix, I browsed the shops (one in particular was super with all kinds of brand-name clothing, shoes, gifts, etc. and aptly named "Famous Brands".)    This store and the entire town were really hoppin' this gorgeous Saturday with temps in the low 70's.

I enjoyed my retail therapy and then we were on our way back up the west side of Seneca Lake and thru thee most BEAUTIFUL countryside with the lake, farms and many, many vineyards and wineries.    We both agreed, this was every bit as gorgeous as Napa and Sonoma!

Here are a few of many pics I took today

We saw several of these pretty trees yesterday and today - a peachy colored flower but no idea what it is?

Vineyards along Seneca Lake

Following the lake as we drove north

Yesterday and today we were in Amish country
Buggy going down the wide pavement off the main road

Little Amish girl running down the lane (maybe to get the mail)?

Along the way we stopped at the Glenora Winery, Restaurant and Inn - beautiful place with gorgeous views.    We wanted to have lunch there, but the restaurant was closed in preparation for a wedding reception tonight!

So we kept on till we arrived in another charming town - Geneva (north end of lake).    The man at Glenora suggested we try the Belhurst Castle for lunch in as it's on the water.    Oh my....unbelievably lovely.    We walked around the grounds and a wedding (Danielle and Joseph) was later that afternoon with the reception in the Castle Ballroom.   The bridal party were outdoors for pre-wedding photos. What lovely venues for both these weddings today...

This gorgeous inn, restaurant, winery - all connected, but could not fit in one picture

Another memorable lunch....delicious and extra special with our views...

The grounds were sooo pretty

Antiquing is going strong up here and the little towns are brimming with their "oldies but goodies".   And as always, the flowers are magnificent and bountiful!!!

It was so neat passing thru these small towns to see our American flag flying and the red, white and blue bunting for this holiday weekend displayed at so many homes and businesses!

We stopped in Cicero (neighboring town to Brewerton) for 5:00 Mass at Sacred Heart.

Over lunch we talked about "hoping" we can come back to this area next summer as boating on the Finger Lakes would be awesome!!!    AND....also coming here in the fall with Daisy.    With the billions (no kidding) of trees we've seen since we got on the Hudson River in NYC, I just can't imagine how brilliant, breathtaking, magnificent and jaw-dropping, autumn would be!

Rain is coming our way for tomorrow - remnants of Harvey and 100% chance.
After 3 days of fun, it's time for the nomads to get back to work as we have just Sunday and Monday to finish up with Catrina.
