Hello from Oakley, Kansas (northwest part of the state). We've had another fun day starting with Richard and Linda picking us up at the campground and off to breakfast at Hungry Mann's Café in Galva. WOW......this place is run by the Mennonites and our cinnamon French toast, sausage/bacon and an egg made to order was delicious!!! Lots more chatter while we ate and then back to Daisy. Gave them a quick tour, said our good byes but 3 weeks from today, we'll be together in Fort Worth for the Blue Angels!!! What a fun time we had together and so appreciate and enjoy their warm hospitality and friendship!
Pat and Linda - both proudly wearing our red/white/blue today!
After leaving McPherson, we went north 15 miles to the little town of Lindsborg, a Swedish community. Linda thought we would enjoy this area and of course, it had a quaint downtown with cute shops and the Courtyard Bakery. Delicious-looking cinnamon rolls, scones, desserts, etc., and pay on the honor system. There was a price on each covered tray, so we helped ourselves and put in to-go container, added it all up, put in $ container and off we went! Breakfast tomorrow!!!
While I checked out the shops, Mark found the hardware store and picked up an overhead light that needed replacing on Daisy.
Pretty Bed and Breakfast in Lindsborg
With the Scandinavian roots, there are several painted horses along Main Street
Here are 3 different ones...
Enjoyed our time in Lindsborg and then on our way after an hour or so...
It was a good and "dry" day of travel (200 miles) across Kansas - a few hills here and there, but mostly very flat and "on a clear day, you could see forever" as the song goes. This is big farm country with corn, beans and mostly milo or sorghum. The wheat crop has already been harvested. We saw lots of grain elevators, windmills, beef cattle, horses and small-town America on the plains!!!
We are at the High Plains Camping and RV Park and have had 2 warnings go off on my phone about severe thunderstorm warning for next 7 hours!
Our elevation here at Oakley is 3,000 feet so much cooler and by Sunday morning, 33 degrees! Yikes!
My gripe for today....the constant number of phone calls we each are getting from solicitors or whoever??? I usually do not answer or tell them to please take me off their list! It used to be once or twice a week now it's at least 2x or more daily!!!! Arghhh.
So tonight we decided to walk across the parking lot to Cap'n Jack's Pub which was highly rated by Jesse, the gal who checked me in at the campground. We knew storms were coming but not till around 7. We walked over to Cap'n Jack's at 6 with our rain gear (coats and umbrella) and shortly after, heard thunder and then whoaaa....a major deluge. I forgot to mention that its been windy all day! The rain was pounding down on the tin roof and with the wind, rain was coming down sideways. We enjoyed our dinner/drinks and then it got brighter and although radar showed more rain coming, we took off for Daisy. Oh my.....the parking lot was almost like a lake and we had to dodge this way and that way. Had very wet feet and socks when we got "home"!!!!
Lots of water standing around Toad and Daisy!!!
Hope y'all have a great weekend!
