Wednesday - October 4

What a rainy, miserable day for traveling....when we left Branson around 9;30, it was raining but just got heavier.   We did have about 3 hours of no rain, but once we got into Oklahoma...whoa...heavy stuff for rest of the day!

So, some strange happenings along the way.....THREE times in different places out in the middle of nowhere, we saw men walking along the side of the highway/interstate carrying their belongings in plastic bags, backpack, etc.    It was coming down in buckets all 3 times.

Tried calling different RV parks for a place to stay tonight while in OK and two of them no longer exist and then a lady told me we would have to go into Kansas as there was nothing near where we were cause of all the refineries (guess the folks who work there stay in their campers)???

Our phones went off with a flash flood warning till 6:30 tonight.    Water was standing everywhere in fields and ditches.

So we kept on trucking and tah dah, we're in Kansas and made a reservation at the KOA Campground in Wellington.    When we got off I-35, there was a toll booth and the lady said we would have to be rerouted as there had been an accident.    So, Wellington was just off to our right plus sign for campground, but then we saw all the police lights, etc.     It was 19 miles to take the detour (making a big square) as the rain kept coming down.

We finally were settled around 5:30 and then heard the tragic news that it was a fatal accident.     Feeling sad that our little inconvenience at being rerouted was because of this.

Had spaghetti for supper and hope Mark can relax tonight after a stressful day of driving over 300 miles.    We can check 2 more states off Daisy's list as she drove thru Arkansas and Oklahoma (just a bit out of our way, but it's all about Daisy)!!!

It's funny how some of the chains for gas/convenience stores are in one part of the country and never see them anywhere else (Casey's is a Midwest thing and still seeing them today);   Also in OK and KS, it's "Kum & Go".  Harp's grocery stores are big here - never saw those before.   In upstate NY, the Price Chopper grocery stores were big along with Stewart Shops (like a Casey's).

Onto McPherson, Kansas tomorrow and visit Blue Angel friends!
