Sunday - October 8

Hello from 7,888 feet at Raton Pass, New Mexico just over the Colorado border.    It has been a glorious day again with deep blue skies, 73+ and very little traffic as we drove along the Santa Fe Trail.   However.....that is all going to change tonight as we are under a winter storm advisory - rain, snow, cold temps coming!    We plan to stay here 2 nights and then onto Santa Fe.

Our day started with bacon and eggs and then put some gas in Daisy and onto 10:00 Mass at St. Catherine of Sienna.    And then we left Burlington and on our way driving miles and miles and miles not seeing another vehicle.    For the most part, it was very flat country, but eventually came into hilly areas with signs for small towns that just weren't there anymore - totally abandoned, crumbling away and sad.

Trinidad, CO was the first "big" town at 9,000+ and just 15 miles from Raton Pass.    We stopped for gas and a few things at WalMart.    This was really the first sign of civilization since Burlington as we did pass thru some teeny tiny towns but saw no one.

All around the country, families are going to the pumpkin patch and the kddies are having so much fun.   Here are little NC kiddos....

Luke and Maeve checking out the pumpkins and how about that big turkey?

Going on a hayrack ride with their friends visiting from Georgia...
Jack, Maeve, Taylor, Luke, Maddie

Such a lovely calm evening here at the Raton Pass Camp and Café (there is no café).
Quite a few campers here tonight and we imagine some of them are headed to the Balloon Fest.    Daisy is tucked between folks from Vermont and Alberta, Canada.    We have gorgeous views and supposedly thee best sunsets and sunrises!

Pretty view from campground
