Friday - August 2

We had a great day......drove to Pulaski for breakfast (20 miles).    We had been here last October 2 and met Allie and Owen for breakfast (we were all checking out the fall colors).    It was good as ever!    GREAT omelets!     Then onto Clayton and the antique boat show.    It was an absolutely gorgeous day - low 80's and sunny.   Lots of people checking out all the boats which were incredibly beautiful.

This beauty is as old as me!

Also toured the La Duchesse a gorgeous houseboat built in 1904.   It has sunk 2x , been totally refurbished and now on display for tours - what an awesome display of craftsmanship with beautiful woodwork, all the neat staterooms, some with private baths, some with Jack and Jill baths, gorgeous dining room, and then on 2nd floor, the big common area with piano and room for dancing.   And off that, a huge sun room full of white wicker.....what a delightful way to spend an afternoon cruising on the St. Lawrence.

As we were walking around, they were playing all the old timey music and you could just picture "back in the day", the ladies in their long dresses, hats, parasols, men in seersucker suits and straw hats coming aboard for a little getaway.    As one of the docents pointed out, the ladies would have tea or iced tea and little cookies sitting in the sun room......made me want to go back to that era (just for a little bit)!

The La Duchesse

Some of the boats had the old-time metal plaid picnic baskets (back in the 50's) sitting on seats ready to go cruising and enjoy a picnic lunch.

Ready for a picnic

We also met a delightful couple, Ray and Betty from New Hampshire.    They live on their beautiful wooden boat in Clayton during the summer.    They invited us onboard and gave us a tour.    Very fun visiting with them.

Betty and Ray

Stopped at The Lyric (our favorite coffee shop  in Clayton) for iced coffees and sat a bit.     I found a pair of Sperry boat shoes (1/2 price) at Clayton Trading Company and then on back to Big Red.    On our way home, we took a different route following Lake Ontario - sooo pretty.    Stopped in Sackets Harbor - neat little town and had some ice cream at Strayder's.    Hope to come back to this area on Catrina sometime - all depending how my Captain is doing.

Jason who is working on Catrina had told Mark about a great place to eat outside of Pulaski (Rainbow Shores).   It is in the middle of nowhere down a rough, unpaved road, but oh my,...such a neat spot on the lake.    Food is supposed to be top notch.....we weren't really hungry so sat on patio and had drinks and shared their homemade kettle chips with gorgonzola and bacon (yum).    Back to Catrina around 6:15 - a long day but so fun!
