Tuesday - June 16

A pretty Tuesday for traveling north and then west!   We left Oasis Campground at 8:15 and had lunch in Ashland, WI overlooking Lake Superior.    I had made tuna salad sandwiches, along with chips and iced tea.,    We pulled into St. Luke's Chequamegon Clinic parking lot and a great spot to enjoy lunch and the pretty view.    It was 88 with nice breeze.    We are taking route 2 which runs from Maine to Washington across the upper US from Wisconsin, to Minnesota, to North Dakota, to Montana to Washington.

In 2009 on our return from Alaska, we did the reverse - Washington to Wisconsin.    Checked the blog along the way and reminisced about some familiar places including Minocqua, WI where we stopped with Daisy, I shopped and we had lunch.     Good memories of that neat little town.

I read along the way but also enjoyed the pretty scenery of so many lakes.  After lunch the temp climbed to 91 but whoaaa....soon as we hit the Superior/Duluth twin cities, the temp dropped to 71 with winds out of the NE.

Planning to stay at the Lakehead Boat Basin in Duluth for next 2 nights.    We are in a parking lot overlooking the marina (St. Louis Bay) with many boats and 12 RV's and another section of 25 RV's.    A large bridge is nearby which opens to let the freighters come thru.    Mark is looking forward to seeing some of these big boys!     Among the campers/RV's in our area is an Airstream pulled by a red truck with FL plates!!!

Across the bridge is downtown waterfront section full of restaurants and shops all in neat old buildings.   We'll check that out tomorrow.

Along our walk today we came upon many lilacs - definitely much later blooming here but oh so pretty.

Love lilacs

Mark saw this biggie up close and personal

Beautiful evening with clear skies in the low 60's as the sun is setting.    Duluth is very hilly and
we are nestled in a valley.
