Sunday - September 9

Another pretty day - 36 this morning and got to 63.    Feels good to be wearing jeans, fleece jackets, sox and gloves again!!!    We had breakfast and left around 10 for Ausable Chasm ((25 miles) described as the "Grand Canyon of the Adirondacks."     As we were leaving the park, many roads are closed for the Ironman race, and we saw several bikers.    Have not heard how many participated but they come from all over the world.....unbelievable!!!
Just remember....that was 1.3 mile swim; 56 mile bike ride and 13.1 mile run!
And that's just a 1/2 Ironman.....in July, they had the full one (2x these distances)!!!!!!

Along with Lake Placid, Ironman races today were also in Germany, Korea, and Santa Cruz, CA.

There were 7 participants in the women's 70-74 age group with the top finishing in 9 hrs. and 2 men in the 75-80 division finishing in 12-13 hrs.   Way to go.......
After seeing all those young men and women yesterday, had no clue our age group would be out there today!    AWESOME....not our thing, but that really is AWESOME!!!

So, we were off to do some hiking and what fun we had (climbed lots of steps, but also good walking paths and the beauty was sooo well worth it).

Here's some of the beauty...
Rainbow Falls
Hikers taking the "Adventure Trail" - most challenging....NO thank you!!!

A trolley picked us up and back to the welcome center
(would've been another 2-mile uphill hike - nope, enough is enough!!!)

We took off for Plattsburg (11 miles) and along Lake Champlain with Vermont across the water.    Philip flies in here on Spirit....had lunch at Gus's Diner - we've sure had some good meals at various diners this summer.

Back to Flo and rested a bit, caught up on e-mails and then Mark had a hankering for some chocolate, so we walked to Adirondack Chocolates and now each of us have a little stash to keep on hand when that craving comes along!    Lots of good choices!

Tomorrow we plan to leave NY and off to Vermont.    When we think about all the places we've seen in this beautiful state from west to east we reminisced at these towns/villages we saw along the way...Rome, Sweden, Greece, Egypt, Chili, Peru, all while never leaving the state!   Ha!

What a beautiful, very diverse state......of course, there's NYC straight south of us (273 miles) and a whole different world!!!

Have a great week!
