Wednesday - September 12

Another cloudy, very overcast day, but temps warmed up to mid 70's    We exercised, had eggs/sausage/toast for breakfast and off to do some touring today thanks to our NC friend, Bill.

Waterbury is about 30 miles from here and although we came thru it yesterday on our way home from Stowe, we wanted to check out these favorites starting with Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream - Vermont's finest!!!    Lots of people there and our group of 30 had Olivia for our guide and a 3-step tour starting with a 6-minute video of how it all began; walking upstairs overlooking the various steps to making this good stuff followed by a tasting of the flavor of the day which was "maple tangerine",   It was very good, but probably never going to see on the shelves as they make some of these unique flavors just to try out on the customers..   Our group was represented from several states AND Germany, Switzerland, Israel, and Denmark

Great ice cream

Okay, after that yummy fix, we were off to the Green Mountain Coffee Co., which is in the old Waterbury train station and shares the building with the visitor's center.    It is a self-guided tour and then I treated myself to a cinnamon/maple latte (love these fall drinks).

Good coffee here

One more stop and that was the Cabot Cheese Market which used to give tours (Cabot, Vermont is actual headquarters) but stopped in January of this year.   The market has all the cheeses to sample, wine, other gourmet foods, gifts, etc.    We've always liked Cabot cheese which is sold in all grocery stores.

Ended our outing with a stop at Hannaford for some groceries, back to Flo, and while I unloaded the bags, Mark got the bikes out and time for a long-overdue ride.    Rode on the Colchester trail - nice paved road thru the woods, but it is humid and we came to the conclusion that we are out of shape with the biking and too many Vermont inclines!!!

We had tuna sandwiches for supper and then another bike ride.
Tomorrow we are going back to NY and stay in the Lake George area for 4 days.

After enjoying the cooler temps, smell of the campfires and pine trees, we are warming up again - 80's next 5 days!
