Saturday - September 11

Remembering 20 years ago today and the horror of 911...God bless all the victims and their families NEVER to be FORGOTTEN

September 11, 2021

We had a very enjoyable busy Saturday starting with breakfast at The Bear Track which we remember from 10 years ago and a wonderful blueberry pancake (HUGE).    Although Carol told us last night that they had new owners, the pancake was still really good (and leftovers).    We drove all over the island, including the Flats area (VERY remote, but still people live out there and use solar panels, along with rough roads and pretty much nothing else till you see the beautiful lake.).

This is one of the homes in the Flats - a shipping container that you would see on a train or freighter and here on Drummond Island - someone lives here???

We went past Bill and Beth's home and Bill was out walking and invited us to see their property, home, etc.    Oh my........sooo nice (big log cabin home).   We had such a good time and sat on the porch overlooking the clear blue water and yakked for 2 hours.

Beth and Bill
Hope to see them in FL in April

Stopped at the visitor center where their daughter Michelle works and nice to meet her and enjoy her enthusiasm for this quaint island.    Stopped at Port 'O' Call for a latte, the North Haven gift shop and on home at 2:15....packed in alot since going to breakfast at 8:30.

We went to 4:30 Mass at St. Florence (Beth and Bill were there).    The pastor, Father Jemej Sustar serves 4 parishes (Hessel, DeTour Village, Goetzville, and Drummond Island).    He travels by motorcycle taking the ferry - with so many cars, trucks and other vehicles, he has a much better chance of getting on by just tucking his motorcycle in any little spot.

ATV's and jeeps are VERY big here on the island and the locals are not liking it as they come from all over and are tearing up some of the nice paths, logging roads, etc.    They are filty but then that's what these young folks love (flying thru the gravel, water, mud, etc.)     There were oodles and oodles today.    Crazy....

Sorry I didn't get more of the REALLY nasty ones!

Internet is working better during the day than night time - here are some pics from yesterday...

Breakfast at Oma's Friday morning
Bob went to the Dr. when they returned home and after x-rays and blood work, no real known cause for sore foot - maybe gout, but not in the usual place?    He's on anti-inflammatory medicine.

Bill, Beth, Pat, Mark, Carol, Fred - Friday night

Back on the road tomorrow.....
