Saturday-Sunday, September 4-5

Saturday - It was supposed to be warm and sunny, but mostly cloudy skies.....Mark was up early and got Flo and Big Red out of storage and pulled up alongside the dock!    He went to Coffee Express for coffees and muffins.  We finished tidying up Catrina and Flo and then waited for our guests.    They thought they would be arriving around noon, but texted and said closer to 1:20.

Mark picked up pulled pork nachos from the food truck downtown - great lunch!

Matt, Megan and Kara arrived right at 1:20.    So good to see them and our 2nd time to be with Kara.    They put their bags on Flo, we gave them a quick tour of Catrina and Flo and they gave us a wonderful gift of Crumbl Cookies which are a Columbus tradition.   WOW……very very good!    Just a little piece here and there is sooo satisfying and deeelicious!

Excellent cookies

And then we were unhooking the water and electrical, untying lines and off we went for a delightful afternoon on Catrina.    We cruised for a while (sooo many boats) and then anchored off the Port Clinton beach (1st time to anchor all summer).    We sat and yakked away, had drinks and snacks.    Around 3:00, the VHF radio reported that a jet ski with 3 passengers had hit a boat!    WHAT??????    All this water and well, hard to understand, but obviously the driver was not focusing on where he was going.   Two of the passengers fell into the water, but after calling the Coast Guard, they reported there were no injuries and everyone appeared to be ok.    The boat that they hit was a charter fishing boat.    They waited awhile for the Coast Guard to arrive, but they never did (probably since there were no injuries, they didn’t need to show up, file a report, etc.)?    A new experience for us – to hear a jet ski hits a boat and it happened very near where we were!     Eventually, boat, jet ski with 3 passengers and another jet ski with 2 passengers (traveling together) all went back into town.    We don’t think it’s legal to have 3 passengers, but then….not sure!

So that provided a bit of excitement and certainly could've had a tragic outcome.   We came back to our slip around 4:30.    Decided it was time for some cards – Matt and Kara love euchre (Megan had never played) – so very fun playing 5-handed with me winning 2 games (that made it extra fun)!      Time to eat!    We had asked the kids what they would like for dinner and told them about our Friday night “Perch, Peach. Pierogi, and Polka”  experience.    They thought that sounded like fun, so off we went walking downtown; but, the lines for the carry out went on and on!    Friday night we just walked up, paid, got our food and good to go.    They did not want to wait in the long line, so we went across the street to McCarthy’s Irish Pub which was very good, but we were all finished eating and Megan still had not gotten her food!    Arghhhh.    The waitress kept apologizing – mix-up in the kitchen?    Finally Meg got her meal, enjoyed it and it was on the house!     Walked back to the boat and time for more cards and dug into the cookies.  With all the fresh air, we were all fading fast, but this round of 5-handed went S L O W, with finally Matt the winner and it was “good night” to all.    We girls slept on Catrina while Matt and Mark had a restful night on Flo.

Sunday -  We all slept in this morning and these kiddos are used to getting up EARLY with jobs (Kara teaches 3rd grade and up at 5:15 every day).   So, this was a treat for them.

Had cherry Kringle (Bassett’s carries several flavors) and fresh fruit for breakfast.   They had never heard of this Danish pastry from Racine, WI.    We took one more picture and Mark and I were off for 10:30 Mass and the troops headed back to Columbus.    We’ll see them again on October 15th at their cousin’s wedding in Louisville.   Sooo much fun and hope we can do it again next summer!

Bye bye Megan, Matt and Kara
Thanks for coming!

After Mass we came back and dug in for the last of our stuff off Catrina and onto Flo.    We’ve had new faucets for the bathroom sink for several weeks but Mark delayed that project thinking if something went wrong, we didn’t want to not have water when we had guests.    So, decided today/tomorrow he would get at this.   Of course, nothing exactly lined up with the old ones, so off to the hardware store (2x).

It was a very productive day and we are tired but it’s a good tired and tomorrow, just wrap up a few more things before we put Catrina to rest for 9 months on Tuesday!

Love my new faucets

Mark ordered new electric bikes for us and had them shipped to Anne (should've done that with the truck bed cover)!    The boys did some minor assembly and then enjoyed riding with Gibson close behind!

Boys bikes, Gibson
Hiking at Dawson Lake today with their buddies

We read Dick’s blog (our neighbor at Cypress Trail) who had been at Kamp Komfort.     He enjoyed his overnight stay and upon our advice, went to Busy Corner for dinner.    LOVED the fried chicken, hash browns and salad + strawberry/rhubarb pie.   He really appreciated us telling him about BC and makes us oh-so-ready for that place again!

I texted my Metarie, LA friend, Jackie to see how they were doing.....they've been staying at various places since Ida hit and not sure when they can go home as there is no electricity and it's sooo hot.    They are currently staying at a condo in Gulf Shores, AL.

Zoom tonight with just 7 siblings (missing Theresa, Doris, Joan, Janet and Nancy).   Everyone is busy these days with school, planning a shower/wedding, hitting a deer ($6,000 damage for Tom H), high school reunions, etc. etc.

Enjoy your Labor Day and the week ahead!
