Monday - May 9

Whew.....definitely a "HOLD ON TO YOUR HAT" kind of day!!!     Mark was not feeling well this morning, but encouraged me to go to town and meet the Monday morning group.    Fun to be with them (December was last time for most of us to be together).    Good breakfast and chatter.    On home....Mark feeling much better!

A nice quiet day on Flo other than the strong wind.    Around 1:00, I got a notice on my phone for McLean County and the extreme high wind conditions.   Winds were out of the south at 30-35 mph with gusts of 35-45 mph.    Please be aware of traveling on I-72 or I-74 (east/west roads).

We went for a walk around 2ish and visited with Dave and Val from Normal who arrived today for the summer.    We met them several years ago and we always are out here together in the spring or fall.    Dave did not enjoy driving their RV in these horrific winds on I-74 and very glad to be here safely!

I watched episode 8 of "Call the Midwife" and as always, did some crying.    One more episode coming to end the season.

While the temp reached 80 degrees today with plenty of sunshine, the winds were just incredibly strong!

We heard devastating news this afternoon - Green Gables, a long-standing institution of thee best cheeseburgers, cheeseballs, etc., etc. burned and to make matters worse, it was out of control very quickly with the awful winds.    Seven different fire departments from neighboring towns helped fight the blaze.    Our kids loved this place and they were very sad.    All the years we spent 3 weeks in the summer when they were growing up, this was our favorite and to this day, when the kids are home, this would be on the top of their list!

I drove into town (took 150 avoiding I-74) around 4, ran a few errands and met the Monday Night Friends at Destihl - all 11 of us were together (this is a real rarity)!   Linda was back from Chicago area where she recently moved and we sat outside on the new patio - very windy, but a little protected.   Lots of conversations going on at once, but all very sad about the fire at GG.

Monday Night Friends - wind blown hair!

The winds are slowly dying down...
