Thinking of our family and friends in the USA celebrating today!!! Hope they're having an awesome day!
Here in Canada, it's just another day! We started out this morning leaving Cobourg at 8:10 in the fog - not soo bad inland, but kinda pea soup on the water. We had about 1.5 hrs of this and then cleared - been a very pretty day with a high of 79.
We cruised 25 miles on Lake Ontario and then entered Presqu'ile Bay and then the Murray Canal. We arrived in Trenton around 11:45 (total mileage was 41). While on the canal (4 miles), we had 2 bridges open for us. One of them (Brighton) charges a fee to go thru - $5.50. The guy stops vehicle traffic on the road, opens the bridge and stands out over the the water holding a long pipe with plastic cup for me to put the $ in. That was unique and a 1st time for us! The other bridge,"Carrying Place" had no fee.
Trenton is a cute town of around 22,000. We checked in at the Trent Port Marina and then downtown for lunch at The Counter - wow! I love when you can order 1/2 sandwich, 1/2 portion of soup or salad....so Mark had a ham/cheese/mustard sauce/jam/lettuce and other goodies on focaccia with a beet salad. I had 1/2 chicken salad with beet salad - all were delicious.
Mark did a little browsing downtown and I got a manicure with Jessica at the Trenton Beauty Bar. I stopped in at Sally's Hair Salon just to see if I could get a haircut - when I called yesterday, they were totally booked for this afternoon and tomorrow morning. But Jolene said to come at 5:30, so....that made my day! Back to the boat and we read and relaxed with a nice breeze coming thru Catrina's windows.
We were at this marina (but in a different location) back in 2011. The new facility was built in 2016 and the bathrooms/showers/laundry are all very very nice AND, laundry is free!!! Mark did a load of laundry (free) while I was getting my haircut. Enjoyed visiting with both Jessica and Jolene.
Back to Catrina and had drinks/snacks on the bridge - very nice evening. Did one more load of laundry and walked the docks to get our steps. Tonight there are 4 boats from the US and 3 are doing the Loop. We saw Seabrook, TX, (Looper) Virginia Beach, VA, (Looper) Afton, Minnesota (Looper) and Cape Coral, FL.
The couple from Cape Coral are AGLCA harbor hosts (American Great Loop Cruising Association). They took several pics of us coming into the Trent Port Marina today! How nice was that! Here are 2
